Harvey I. Holden

Age 82 of Elmira, NY passed away on Thursday June 2, 2011. Harvey was born on December 29, 1928 in Elmira to the late Randall and Mary Holden. Harvey was predeceased by brothers Gerald and Randall (Jr.) Holden and sister-in-law Mary (Eugene) Holden. He is survived by his wife Norma (Johnson) Holden; daughters Barbara (Charles) Granger of Pine City, Gwen (John) Sabatini of Elmira, Roberta (John) Davenport of Millville, PA; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; aunts Esther Sult of Berwick PA, Flora Sult of Ft. Mill, SC and Hazel Sigworth of Fletcher, NC; brothers Eugene Holden of Elmira, George (Elizabeth) Holden of Fort Mill, SC and Stephen (Dianna) Holden of Alpharetta, GA; sister Roberta (Eric) Muller of Cumming, GA; sisters-in-law Shirley (Randall Jr.) Holden of Elmira, Margaret (Gerald) Holden of Pine City; brother-in-law Richard (Rayge) Johnson of Norman, OK and several nieces and nephews.Harvey's wife, Norma, would like to express a special 'thank you' to Joe Sabatini for "being a part of our family and providing love, help and support for many years." Harvey was a retired carpenter and surveyor and a proud member of both the Carpenters Local #532 and the Masonic Lodge #95. He was an excellent carpenter who produced precision work with his skill and meticulous attention to detail. He loved sports and achieved special recognition in High School at Elmira Free Academy as a three-time wrestling champion and a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish - especially with his grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Monday June 6, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport,with a funeral service to follow there at 12:00 noon. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
