Age 76, passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Skilled Nursing Facility, Elmira, NY on May 6, 2003.Helen was born in Binghamton, NY, the daughter of the late John and Mildred Jager.She was predeceased by her husbands; Charles H. Brinkerhoff (1963) & Raymond E. Schaffer (2001), brothers; Richard and John Jager, sister; Joyce Hayes.Helen is survived by her son; Charles ?Bud? (Judith) Brinkerhoff of Pine City, NY, daughter; Holly (Gregory) Carter of Horseshoe, NC, grandsons; Jeffrey and Jason Brinkerhoff, Raymond J., Zachary, and Noah Carter, brothers; Peter (Judith) Jager, NY, Jack (Phyllis) Jager, IL, David (Nancy) Jager, AZ, Herb Jager, CA, Rick Jager, AZ, Bob Jager, CA, Al Jager, CA, sister; Carol Snow, NY, special niece, Christina Hey, Seneca Falls, NY and numerous nieces & nephews.Helen worked for Seneca County Health Dept. for many years, retiring in 1989.She enjoyed raising sheep at her farm in Waterloo, NY. She was on the Board of Directors for the Seneca County Agricultural Society, NYS Woolgrowers Assoc., American Legion Post # 462 Auxiliary, Interlaken, NY.Helen served as a director for the New York State Fair Board and was Superintendent of Sheep at the Fair for many years.Every year she looked forward to having family & friends over for holiday feasts and family summer reunion picnics at Sweets Hill Farm.As per her request, relatives and friends are invited to attend a joint Memorial Service for Helen and Raymond on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Interlaken Dutch Reform Church, Main Street, Interlaken, NY.The Reverend Mike Hooker will officiate. At the conclusion, relatives and friends are invited for luncheon provided by the American Legion Auxiliary at the Interlaken Legion Post # 462, South Main Street, Interlaken, NY.The family will provide flowers.Memorial donations may be directed to the American Diabetes Assoc., NYS Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT, 06150-1160 or your favorite charity, in Helen?s memory.Arrangements are entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., Elmira, NY.
