Age 79 of the Edward Flannery Apartments, Elmira, passed away suddenly Friday, November 28th, 2003 at St. Joseph?s Hospital.Helena, known by most as ?Buffie?, was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Sandore Buffalin. Surviving is her husband, William N. Rennie of Elmira; sons, William A. Rennie of Troy, NY; Thomas J. (Georgia) Rennie of Pine City, NY and their children, Carolyn and Colleen; son, James (Patrice) Rennie of Snellville, Ga and their children, Mary and Erin; brothers, Michael (Marian) Buffalin; Eugene (Judy) Buffalin; sisters-in-law, Linda Buffalin and Mary Buffalin; all of Elmira; and many loving nieces and nephews. ?Buffie? is also survived by a sister-in-law, Nan (Al) Basso of Groton, NY; brother-in-law, John Rennie of Merrimack, NH; sister-in-law, Helen Rennie of Horseheads, NY; and many loving friends at the Flannery Apartments. Her sister, Grace and brothers, James, Arthur, and Joseph predeceased her.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Monday, December 1st, 2003 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 8:00 PM. The Rev. William Lutz will officiate.Interment will be at the convenience of the family.?Buffie? was best known for helping others and loved being a Registered Nurse. Early in her nursing career, she worked in Selma, Alabama in Public Health.She later worked in St. Joseph?s Hospital here in Elmira for 37 years before her retirement. She was also known for her volunteerism and the love she had for her family, especially her four granddaughters. She loved donating her time to helping the community. She served for 2 years as President of the Tenants Assoc. of the Flannery Apartments, and was a commissioner for the Housing Authority, representing the Flannery Apartments. She volunteered her time to the Eastside Meals on Wheels program, and was very proud of her involvement in the local Board of Elections committee, Steele Memorial Library, and Girl Scouts. In her quiet hours she liked to quilt and crochet, cook and bake, and still found time to travel.
