Henry Lundy

Henry Lundy, a lifelong Elmira resident and respected area business leader, died at his home in Elmira on Tuesday, June 27, 2006.Henry was born on May 9, 1916, the eldest child of Harry and Anna Larson Lundy, and the grandson of immigrants from Sweden. He attended Hendy Avenue School and the Elmira Free Academy. He was associated with Hardinge Bros., Inc for over 30 years, starting in the drafting department and working into sales and sales management before being appointed Vice President for Sales in the 1950s. He met his wife of 65 years, the former Phyllis Wombough, at Hardinge when she worked in the accounting department in 1938.In the 1960s he joined Dura-Bilt Products in Bentley Creek, PA, where he held various executive positions and served on the Board of Directors. In his later years with the company, he drew on his talents as a photographer and produced advertising materials before retiring in 1996 at the age of 80. Henry was an avid nature photographer and was known for his striking photographs of birds and flowers. He and Phyllis and their family lived in West Elmira where Phyllis still resides, and were members of Bethany Lutheran Church and former members of the Audubon Society, Tanglewood Nature Center and the Elmira Country Club. The couple enjoyed traveling and visited many countries in Latin America, Europe and Africa.Henry is also survived by three children; Anne (John) Welch of Reston, VA; John (Beth) Lundy of Moore, SC and Sunset Beach, NC; and Karen Davidson of Elmira; three grandchildren, David (Jessica) Mark Welch of Falmouth, MA, Cheryl (Paul) Dillardof Richmond, VA and Megan Lundy (Mitchell Hoffman) of Stamford, CT; and five great-grandchildren, Leah, James and Timothy Dillard and Daniel and Andrew Mark Welch.Henry was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Wagner of Elmira and is survived by a brother, Carl (Doris) Lundy of Hammondsport; three sisters, Esther Hammond of Horseheads, Evelyn Manth of Williamsville, NY and Marjorie Thompson of Nashville, TN. His family also includes several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Friday, June 30 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with a funeral service immediately following (5:00 PM). The Reverend Joseph Cotner of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.Internment at Woodlawn Cemetery will be a private family service.Donations may be made in Henry Lundys name to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation ,1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, www.pdf.org.
