Age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the Elcor Health Services Horseheads, NY. She was born January 15, 1917 in Waverly, NY the daughter of the late Walter and Eliza (Olmstead) Arnold. Her husband, Clayton Woolever, October 19, 1993, predeceased Hilda. Hilda was a licensed funeral director who owned and operated the Arnold Funeral Home in VanEtten, NY with Clayton for 41 years until their retirement in 1986. The family also operated an ambulance side of the business with a combination vehicle that served as both a hearse and an ambulance. For many of their early years Hilda and Clayton worked together providing their services to the community 24-7. Later Clayton became one of the areas first Emergency Medical Technicians. Hilda is survived by the Honorable Town Justice, Richard C. (Beverly) Woolever of Erin, NY; James (Karen) Woolever of Tampa, FL; daughter, Sheila (Roger) McCallum of Breesport, NY; along with 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Hilda was a member of the Community Methodist Church and of the Cedar Chapter O. E. S. # 400 of Van Etten for 70 years and served many years in the Van Etten Firemans Auxiliary, a member of Van Etten Senior Citizens and a past member of the Chemung County Funeral Directors Association. Hildas written instructions specify no calling hours and that she will be cremated. Those wishing to remember Hilda may make a donation to the Van Etten Volunteer Fire Department or their favorite charity. A Memorial Service celebrating Hildas life will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
