SNYDER, Irene G. (Kennedy)Age, 87, of Salisbury, NC, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 after a short illness. Irene was born in Olean, NY on November 23, 1926 to the late Susie and John W. Maynard.After graduation from Southside High School, she attended St. Joseph’s Hospital earning a degree in nursing. She married Henry S. Kennedy in 1946 to whom she was married until his death in 1989.In 1994, she married Frederick Snyder to whom she was married until his death in 1999. A loving and dedicated mother, Irene also dedicated her life to nursing for over 40 years.Most of this time was spent at Chemung County Nursing Facility.Upon retirement, Irene worked at Light’s Bakery prior to relocating to Salisbury NC. In addition to her parents and husbands, Irene was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Maynard Everett, and brothers Robert, Harold and Johnny Maynard. Survivors include sons, Thomas Kennedy (Sandy) of MI; Timothy Kennedy (Julie) of NC; grandchildren, Michael Kennedy (Liesel) and Daniel Kennedy (Beth) of MI; Adam Kennedy (Lauren), Sam Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy, all of NC; step-grandchildren Elizabeth Mantilas (Andrew) of London, UK; and Jeremy Mobley of IL; 6 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary and Alice Kennedy and a host of other friends and family. The family will receive visitors at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church 224 Franklin Street Elmira at 11:00 AM Friday, January 31, 2014. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery where Father will conduct the committal prayers. In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be directed to Irene’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
