James R. Good

86, of Big Flats, NY died on July 5, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born to James and Clara Good in Lincoln Park, PA on September 29,1926. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1944 where he was a star basketball player. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was Honorably Discharged in July 1946. After the war, he studied art education at Kutztown State Teachers College and received his Master's Degree from Penn State University. He taught in the school districts of Pennsbury, Elkland, Corning, and Painted Post before teaching at Shippensburg University and then taught in the Horseheads School District until his retirement. While teaching in Horseheads, he was the coordinator of the art department and started the art display of the students' work at the Arnot Mall. He also initiated the yearly booklet "Images" which printed the outstanding artwork of the students. Jim was an avid fan of the Yankees and Penn State Football and loved the game of golf. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother-in-law, Robert Spies, and a nephew, Jamie Prosser. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, his son, Matthew (Katheryn) of Dallas, TX, his daughter, Katheryn "Duke" of Tarrytown, NY, his sisters, June Spies and Marilyn Prosser (James) of Reading PA, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was a member of the First Congregational Church of Corning. Following Jim's wishes, a graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
