Was born July 12, 1920 in Saratoga Springs, NY the son of the late Albert and Mary (Fones) Winchell, passed away very unexpectedly on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in Corning, NY age of 86. His loving and devoted wife, Dorothy J. (Treat) Winchell predeceased him. James is survived by his beloved children, Patricia Jones of Newfield, NY; Ronald Butch Winchell of Painted Post, NY; Richard Winchell of Beaver Dams, NY; Glen Winchell of Elmira, NY; step-children, Dawn Wenck of Beaver Dams, NY; Wayne (Darlene) Stiles of Owensboro, KY; Jim (Cecil) Stiles of Gang Mills, NY; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Jim is also survived by his special friend and loving companion, Betty Bacalles of Corning, NY. He was a Veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country with the Battery D 131st Anti-aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during WW II from 1943 to 1946. Jim retired from Corning Inc. after 38 years of dedicated service as a steuben finisher. He was a member of the VFW Post # 524 in Corning, NY. Jim was a resident of Beaver Dams for 46 + years, in his spare time, he enjoyed camping with family and friends. A gathering of his family and friends will take place on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services honoring his life will take place their on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 PM. The Reverend Joseph Zaino will celebrate Jims service. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn National Cemetery where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Winchell full Military Honors.
