Janet Baxter (née Clift), a cherished mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Born into humble beginnings, Janet’s 98 remarkable years were a tapestry of love, grit, and perseverance. Her eclectic journey led her from nursing to ministry, entrepreneurship, and business ownership, reflecting her innate curiosity and bravery to flout convention. With a brilliant mind, she thrived on intellectual conversation, always peppered with her sparkling wit. She adored all animals, especially her cats in her later years.
5’2” but larger than life, Janet’s light shone so very brightly. She didn’t enter a room so much as make an entrance with an air of timeless glamour in both dress and demeanor. Charming and funny, her beauty and charisma enchanted all she met. She just made people feel singular and ever so special.
At the center of her life was an unwavering faith in Jesus, deepened by her devotion to biblical scholarship. While her family misses her dearly, they find solace in the thought that she has returned to the loving embrace of the Lord. Janet's memory lives on in her children - Dayle, Susan, Timothy (and his wife Susan), Lynn (and her husband Geoff), Deborah (and her husband Danny), and Rebecca, and in her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all who carry her light onward.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to her preferred charity, the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675, in memory of her first love, Harry Ward Benson who died a hero in WWII.
Janet’s family would also like to extend sincere thanks to her caregivers and her social worker Cory Burns for all their loving help and support at the end of her life.
