Jennie Elizabeth Thorne

Formerly of Cypress Street, was born November 6, 1922 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late George S. and Eudora (Foltz) Hancock passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Elcor Health Services in Horseheads, NY at the age of 84. Her beloved husband, Grant Thorne predeceased her in 1988. She was also preceded in death by John Brud Traum in 1945, several brothers and sisters, son-in-law, Charles Sampsell and grandson, Scott Sampsell. Her survivors include: loving daughters, Jacqueline Sampsell (fiance Albert Draht) of Elmira, NY; Bonita (Joseph) DiBello of Newport Richey, FL; Patricia (Charles) Collins of Pine City, NY; Virginia (Steven) Snyder of Elmira, NY; Susan Thorne also of Elmira, NY; brother, Alfred (Helen) Hancock of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law, Edith Rausch of Florida; along with 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandson, several nieces and nephews. For many years, Jennie worked part-time retail at the following stores: Iszards, J C Pennys, Sears and was a full-time homemaker. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and was involved in the Choir and the Altar Guild. She was a member of the following organizations: Girl Scouts of America, Girl Friendly, Erie Circle and the Chapel Park Senior Citizens. At her request there will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church 304 North Main Street Elmira, NY on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Dr. William Lutz will officiate. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
