John Bedzyk

Affectionately known as Brother John. Founder and Pastor of the Elmira Christian Center for the past 60 years, went home to Glory on Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.Brother John was born June 14, 1922 in Elmira Heights, NY, son of the late Michael and Anna (Moskal) Bedzyk, Sr.He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Roberta J. (White) Bedzyk; beloved daughter, Bonnie of Durham, NC; son, Paul (Judi) of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Breklyn, Jesse, Truly, Anna, Dusty, and Zach, all of Durham, NC; Matt and Mitch of Elmira, NY; brother, Rev. Peter (Jennie) Bedzyk of Erie, PA; sister, Helen Weaver of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law, Marge Bedzyk, also of Horseheads, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and his loving ?family? at church.His younger brother, Mike, Jr. preceded him in death in 2003.Family and friends are invited to call at the Elmira Christian Center, 235 E. Miller Street, on Elmira?s Southside, Elmira, NY 14904 on Sunday, August 1, 2004 from 1 to 4 PM.Funeral and committal services will follow at 4 PM for the Elmira Christian Center family.The Rev. Belvy White will officiate.Co-Pastors will be Rev. David Cook,Rev. John Anderson, and Rev. Ronald Piedmont. Interment will be held privately in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira at the convenience of the family.The family will provide their own flowers.Those wishing may make memorial donations in Brother John?s name to the Elmira Christian Center or the Elmira Christian Academy.Envelopes will be provided at the church.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com .
