Was born October 3, 1920 in Lake Carey, PA the son of the late William and Hannah (Hawley) Conrad went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 28, 2013 peacefully, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 92. He was greeted at Heaven's gate by his loving wife of 61 years Frances M. (Place) who preceded him in death in 2007 and his beloved son, Gary who preceded him in 1996, as well as other family and loved one's who have gone on before. He is survived by his children, Myrle (Tom) Richards of Waverly, NY; Marcia Rudolph of Sand Springs, OK; Mary (Edelyn) Conrad of Broken Arrow, OK; Monty (Patty) Conrad of Tulsa, OK; Kevin Conrad of Waverly, NY; sister-in-law, Myrle Knapp of Elmira, NY; Thelma Scott of Scottsdale, AZ; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. John was a Veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country from 1941 - 1945 during WWII. He landed on Normandy Beach and was a recipient of the following medal: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star and the Victory Medal. He retired from Corning Incorporated after several years of dedicated service as a Master Carpenter. He thoroughly loved going to Auctions and Flea Markets, working on and repairing all types of clocks and was enjoyed woodworking. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Otlhof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral services honoring his life will follow the visitation at 6 PM. His nephew, John P. Knapp will celebrate his Uncle John's life. Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 2nd at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath NY at 2 PM where the American Legion John P. Eaton Post # 746 will accord Mr. Conrad Military Honors.
