John R. Coulter

John Richard CoulterOf Big Flats, NY and formerly of Syracuse, NY. Son of the late Sidney B. and Mildred S. Coulter was born in Syracuse, NY on February 3, 1932. John passed away on January 16th after fighting a brave battle against kidney disease. He graduated from Solvay High School, NY and later Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada serving as Seabee. He completed 10-years combined active duty and reserves in the US Navy. He worked for IBM (Endicott, NY), Ingersoll-Rand (Painted Post, NY) and Carrier (Syracuse, NY). John was very active politically, was a strong supporter of Christian Missionaries around the world and served as trustee at Syracuse Alliance Church and Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church (Corning, NY). He served with the Gideon's in both the Syracuse region as well as the Elmira-Corning region. He was passionate about downhill and cross country skiing, sailing and spending time at the family cottage on Seneca Lake. He also had a love of nature and bird-watching. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was recognized by the National Ski Patrol with their highest honor (Purple Merit Star and Citation) for first aid treatment saving a person’s life at Pinnacle ski area in Addison, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Coulter: son, Steven (Laurie) Coulter; daughter, Christine (Alec) Wolcott; son, Matthew (Ellen) Coulter; six grandchildren; brother, Robert F.
