John H. Glover, Sr., a native of Elmira, NY and resident of Summerville, SC, passed away on July 23, 2025. He was 84 years old.
John was a hard-working man who retired from the Department of Public Works of the City of Elmira, and later from Little Joe’s TV Store after 30 years of service. He was the president of the Huck Finn Little League for many years in the 1970s. John was also a talented craftsman, making countless pieces of furniture and rocking horses through the years. He continued using his crafting skills even through the last few months of his life, with his last piece being a bench he made for his neighbor and good friend Joe.
John was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 61 years – Joan (Marshall) Glover; his parents – Harold Glover, and Mary (Belloma) Shaw and husband Edward Shaw, III; and his grandson Joshua James Carnegie.
He is survived by: his daughters – Joy Murphy (Ken), and Julie Glover (Tony); his son John H. Glover, Jr.; his six grandchildren – Trisha Woltjen (Kyle), Sean Little (Carolyn), Markessa Griffin, Brandon Griffin (Allyson), Mary Catherine Hughes (Steve), and Johnny Glover, Jr. (Myra); his eleven great-grandchildren – Dax, Bryson, Aria, Colin, Ian, Mason, Tripp, Delaney, Gio, Mia, and Benjamin; and a host of friends from the Summerville, SC community.
Friends and family are invited to Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira, NY for calling hours on Saturday, August 2 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, when a brief funeral service led by Deacon Joe Erway will begin. Burial will follow immediately at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, 623 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurses Ashley and Pam for the loving care they provided.
