Was born April 15, 1922 in Troy, Pennsylvania the son of the late Delos E. and Lucy (Cease) Kiff, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010 very unexpectedly at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 88. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Doris (Lowery); beloved children, Donald J. "Pete" Kiff of Elmira, NY; Janette (Donald) Zeigler of Horseheads, NY; Robert Besanceney of Naples, Fl; Marilou Besanceney of Webster, NY; adored grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) DeRise, Preston Kiff, Parker Kiff; Lisa (Mark) Lambert, Andrea Schumaker; much-loved great grandchildren, Nicolas Fidurko, Ryan Fidurko and Alexis Lambert; along with several nieces and nephews. John proudly served in the US Army from 1942-1945 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Sperry-Univac after several years of dedicated service as a field engineer and also retired form the Chemung County Court System. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post # 6083 in Elmira Heights, NY and was a member of the American Legion Clarence Oliver Post # 154 Elmira Heights, NY. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral services honoring his life will follow the visitation at 11 AM. The Reverend Anne L. Mowrey will celebrate John's services. Interment will follow in the Park Cemetery Canton, PA where the honor squad from the VFW Post # 714 Canton will accord Mr. Kiff military honors.
