John Pickelhaupt Sr., 84, born in Gyore, Hungary passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with his wife Charlotte by his side. He is predeceased by his parents, Kasper and Elisabeth Pickelhaupt and brother, Kasper Pickelhaupt. John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Hlawaty) Pickelhaupt; sons, John (Tammy) Pickelhaupt Jr. and Richard (Barbara) Pickelhaupt; grandchildren, Erich, Emily, Daniel and Trisha Pickelhaupt; brother-in-law, Horst (Sibylle) Hlawaty; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and loving neighbors. John retired from Kennedy Valve after 40 years of service. He was very active as a Scout leader for many years. He owned and operated Pickelhaupt’s Small Engine Shop for over 30 years. John was also very active in the local AARP Chapter and First United Church of Christ. He was an avid gardener and nature lover. John was a loving husband, father, Opa, and friend who will be dearly missed. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 10 A.M. with a burial to immediately follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Richard Hubbard will officiate.
