John S. Roby Age 93 of Elmira, NY passed away Thursday, August 20th, 2015 at The Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care. John was born in Lealyn, Pennsylvania on the 23rd of July 1922, the son of the late Paul Revere and Dorothy Ann (Hindmarsh) Roby. John proudly served the freedom of his country in the United States Army during World War II, fighting ground combat in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a member of B.O.P.E. Elmira Elks Lodge #62 and of The Elmira American Legion Post #0443. He retired as a truck driver for Seal Test Ice Cream in 1976.John is survived by his devoted wife and friend of 79 years: Harriett (Forer) Roby of Elmira; his daughter and son in law: Mary Ann (David) Fleming of Myrtle Beach, SC; 4 grandchildren: Misty (Neil) Lewis, Marlene (Eric) Adams, Mariann (Joe) Doan, and Jamie (Tim) Cunningham; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother: Paul Revere Roby of Troy, PA; sisters: Lucille Greene of Troy, PA, Robena Moore of Towanda, PA, Donna Green of MN; Jane Wilston of Towanda, PA,along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his sister Henrietta Vermilya. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Monday, August 24th, 2015 from 10:00AM to 11:00PM. Funeral services celebrating John’s life will be held following the calling hours at 11:00AM. Graveside services will be in Union Cemetery, Liberty, PA.
