Joseph M. Christastie

Christastie, Joseph Max Age 80 of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2016 at his home with loved ones by his side. He was born March 19, 1936 in Elmira, NY to the late Leon and Anna Christastie. Joe is survived by son, Michael J. Christastie of Hopewell Junction, NY; daughter, Jennifer A. Heidemann of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren, Meredith G. Christastie, Alexander K. Heidemann and Hannah A. Heidemann; sisters, Jean Ann Randall and Mary Evans; brother, Robert (Helen) Christastie; brother-in-law, Alex Reynolds; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. In additions to his parents, Joe was also predeceased by sister, Dorothy Reynolds. Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He then went on to work for Westinghouse for over 30 years. Joe had a love for sports and excelled in just about anything he played. His greatest love was his grandchildren and always had his bags packed for the next birthday party, sporting event or academic achievement. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 4:00-6:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Casimir's Church, 1000 Davis St., Elmira on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:00AM. Father Scott Kubinski will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Joe's doctors, Dr. Kaffenbarger, Dr. Preucil and staff.
