A long time resident of Elmira, passed away on Thursday, April 13th, 2006 the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, following a long battle with multiple myeloma and complications from viral pneumonia. GOD SAW YOU WERE GETTING TIRED, AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE.SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND WHISPERED, ?COME TO ME?. WITH TEARFUL EYESWE WATCHED YOU, AND SAW YOU PASS AWAY.ALTHOUGH WE LOVED YOU DEARLY, WE COULD NOTMAKE YOU STAY. A GOLDEN HEART STOPPED BEATING,HARD WORKING HANDS TO REST. GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US,HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST.Josephine was born on March 4th in Canisteo, NY, the daughter of the late Allen and Edith Punches Stephens. Josephine married her beloved husband and friend Arthur F. Johnson, whom she has dearly missed sense his death on March 5th, 1993. Josephine was employed at the Excel Dairy, Lights Bakery, and the A&P plant, but her best times were as a homemaker. Caring for her family and being proud of her home were most rewarding to her. She was a well known in the Crafting community, of the southern tier for her design and sewing abilities (and a six foot mouse, that survives to this day, someplace.) She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and friend. Everyone that knew her appreciated her genuine interest in them and her willing and generous heart. Surviving Josephine are her loving daughter Judith Diello, who was her primary caregiver and companion. Three beloved sons: Stephen (Bonnie) Johnson of Springfield, VA; Mark (Reiko) Johnson of Erie, PA; and Eric (Barbara) Johnson of Catlettsburg, KY; Six grandchildren: Phillip M. Johnson, Ed (Carla) Diello, Timothy (Alicia) Diello, Tiffany Barrows, Joshua Painter, Arianna Johnson. Great grandchildren: Josephin Rae Diello, Kyler Ross Gallion. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Josephine?s funeral service will remain private in accordance with her wishes.
