Katherine Jane Steele

Steele, Katherine Jane (Patterson) age 92 of Elmira, NY passed away Saturday, November 29th, 2014 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital. Katherine was born in Elmira, NY on July 18th, 1922; daughter of the late Morton and Julia (Dobberstein) Patterson. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Edward F. Steele, M.D., who passed away on October 23rd, 2007. Surviving Katherine is her daughter and son in law: Sue (Steele) and Robert Lynough II of Elmira; son and daughter in law: Edward Rae and Kathleen (Healy) Steele of Clarence, NY; and daughter: Katherine E. Steele of Elmira, NY; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Lynough Zehr (Isaac) of Watertown, NY, Nicholas Robert Lynough of Elmira, Christopher Edward Steele and Gregory Edward Steele, both of Clarence, NY; one great grandchild Declan Zehr; sister: Joyce Burns of Elmira; brother: Robert Patterson of Horseheads, NY along with several nieces and nephews; sister in law: Eleanor Jean Steele of Elmira. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ; several years ago she was involved in many Garden Clubs, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Thursday Morning Musicals.In her time, she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, gardening, and cooking. She attended St. Vincent’s Medical Center School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio and graduated in the early 1940’s, married Dr. Edward F. Steele in 1949 and raised their family here in Elmira. A private memorial service celebrating the life of Katherine Jane Steele will be held at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family.Katherine Jane will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Edward at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY.Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations in Katherine Jane Steele’s name to the SPCA or the First United Church of Christ.Flowers will be provided by the family.
