Of Elmira, NY Passed away peacefully on Friday October 17, 2003 at Arnot Ogden Medical surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years; Betty R. Gessi, daughters; Rosanne (Bill) Harrison of Elmira, NY and Judith (Tim) Gessi of Michigan, son; Michael (Lorrie) Gessi of Elmira, NY. Grandchildren; Valerie, Brian, Kimberly, Angela, James, Theresa, and Benjamin, great grandchild; Ryan. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Leonard was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having received the Bronze Star along with numerous other honors. He was one of the first 50-year honorees of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department and became a life member in 1965. Leonard was a member of the V.F.W. Rexfield Post #901.Member of the American Legion Clarence Oliver Post #154, member of The Loyal Order of Moose of Horseheads, NY and had received the ?Man Of The Year? award. Leonard was the former owner of The Tiny Tavern for many years and was formerly employed at LeValley-McCloud of Elmira, NY. He was an umpire for Little League baseball games and in his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
