Lester Roper WainwrightWas born May 12, 1918 in Wichita, KS the son of the late George E. and May (Roper) Wainwright, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at his home. His brothers: Herbert (Hazel) Wainwright and Edwin R. (Alice) Wainwright; sister: Rosalind Wainwright, preceded him in death. He is survived by nieces: Rosalind Becker and Vaughirene Taylor; 7 great nephews, 1 great niece and several great great nieces and nephews. Lester was a Veteran of the US Army, proudly serving his country during WWII. On July 1, 1978 he retired from NYSEG after several years of dedicated service. Lester loved to travel, especially visiting Disneyland, and enjoyed gardening. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Lester's life at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Reverend Dr. Betsey Crimmins will officiate. The Chemung County Veteran's Honor Squad will accord Mr. Wainwright Military Honors.
