Age 77, passed away at 1:05 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1933 in Bellefonte, PA the son of the late Gibson Tate and Alice Elizabeth (Grafmyer) Baney. His brother, Cecil Baney and sister, Delores Brothers also preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet(Watson) Baney; children and their spouses, Kirk and Lisa Baney, Lori and Paul Morton and Linda Baney; grandchildren, Zachery and Haleigh Morton; brother, James Baney of State College, PA; along with several nieces and nephews. In 1953, Lewis married Janet and in 1958 they moved to Elmira. Lewis was a facilities engineer and retired from Westinghouse in 1993. Lewis was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and worked diligently for the food pantry there until the church closed and became New Beginnings. He also delivered for Meals on Wheels. Lewis was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge Elmira# 95 and was also a member of the Elmira Grotto. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. At 7:00 PM the Masonic Service will be conducted. The Reverend Michael Weeden will celebrate Lewis's Memorial Service at 8:00 PM. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of his family in the Fitzsimons Cemetery, Southport, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Meals on Wheels or to the Southern Tier Food Bank. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
