Halm, Margaret E.”Peg” age 72 of Big Flats, NY formerly of Reynolds Street, Elmira Southside, passed away at home surrounded by her loving and caring family and husband Thomas Sunday, September 22nd, 2013. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY; Very proud to be the first born American of her Canadian family. She was the daughter of the late Parker S. and Ellen (McIntyre) Fawell on January 2, 1941. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Thomas Halm, son and daughter in law: Brian T. (Vivian E.) of Big Flats, NY; daughters and sons in law: Victoria L. (Brian) Koontz of Bellview, NB, Jennifer S. (Patrick) Donnelly of Troy, MI; grandchildren: Shelby, Calvin, Brooke, Caleb, Colin, Claire; also surviving Margaret is her brother and sister in law: John (Joyce) Fawell of Florida, along with several nieces, nephews and many cousins in Canada. For 26 years Peg worked her way through the Elmira City School District starting out as a volunteer classroom aide and retired as the Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools and Clerk of the Elmira City School Board in 2001. She found accomplishment ushering at the Clemens Center, knitting, sewing, and crocheting. Crocheting small caps, socks, and mittens for the newborns kept her very busy, along with her devoted time singing and supporting Common Time. Peg was proud of her 50 plus year membership of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Elmira, and most recently the Big Flats Presbyterian Church. She and Tom never missed a grandchild’s sporting event, she appreciated antique cars, and car shows that she and Tom often attended over the years. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Friday, September 27th, 2013 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM with funeral and committal services to be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 7:00PM. Reverend Rick Price will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at a time convenience of the family in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY. In lieu of flowers those wishing please make memorials in Margaret E.
