Margaret Joy Johnson Allen

August 17, 1917 — August 23, 2011

Born in Gates, NY and a former resident of the Town of Southport, passed away on August 23, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY. She was a graduate of Southside High School and the Elmira Business Institute. After retiring from a long and successful career in the business sector, Joy served her community as a volunteer with the Arnot Auxiliary Guild and the Board of Elections.She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Ross C. Johnson, husband, Earl R. Allen, sisters; Bernice Ross, Ellen Henley, and Elizabeth Reilly. She is survived by nieces, Patricia Reilly Strickland, Atlanta, GA; Barbara Reilly Newell, Atlanta, GA; Phyllis Reilly Markin, Annapolis, MD; and Marjorie Reilly Thul, Flemington, NJ; along with several great nieces, great nephews and friends. Joy was baptized in St. Peter & Paul's Church and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church. At her request there will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian BurialFriday, September 2, 2011 at 10:00AM in St. Peter &Paul's Church, 161 High Street, Elmira, NY. Reverend Richard Farrell will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.
