Margaret C. Straight

Born September 11, 1917 in Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY, at the age of 91. Margaret resided in the town of Southport prior to moving with her husband to Syracuse in 2005. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years in Dr. Groff's office, as well as private child care in several homes in Syracuse in the 30's and 40's. She was a faithful communicant of St. Daniel's Church in Syracuse and previously a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Elmira. Surviving Margaret is her husband of 42 years, Ralph H. Straight; daughters, Linda Abbas of Elmhurst, NY; Margaret (Alton) Allen of Jacksonville, FL; Mary (Gerald) Sheehan of West Milford, NJ; Barbara (Danny) Sabatino of Syracuse, NY; two grandsons, of West Milford, NJ; sister, Florence Clemons of Lowman, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, brothers and sisters-in-laws, and many friends. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 12th at 10:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to local food cupboards or Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088.
