Formerly of West First Street Elmira, NY - Marilyn Johnson age 84, passed away peacefully at Elcor Health Care Services on Thursday, December 18, 2014. She was born on March 4, 1930 to Emil and Pearl (Lovejoy) Johnson in Elmira. While in high school Marilyn was employed in the diet kitchen at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.After graduation from Elmira Free Academyin 1948, Marilyn took a job as a telephone operator at New York Telephone Co., where she remained for 20 years, rising to the position of night supervisor.In 1968 Marilyn joined with several others to form Totem Taxi Co., being the sole owner at the time of her death. Marilyn enjoyed traveling; in 1972 she accompanied her aunt, Sigrid Johnson on a trip to Sweden to visit relatives.In 1982 she traveled with a group on an exciting and educational trip around the world. London was always a favorite destination. Marilyn was a caring person and an animal lover, taking in many strays over the years.She will truly be missed by her family and friends, employees at Totem Taxi, and all who knew her.The family would like to thank the employees of Elcor, St. Joseph's Hospital and also Bea Seymour of Horseheads for their attentive care, doing whatever possible to keep Marilyn comfortable in her final journey. Marilyn is survived by her sister, Madelene (Jim) Clune of Traverse City, MI; nieces, Pamela (Nick) Fucci of Big Fork, MT; Colleen (Bob) Trombly of Grosse Pointe, MI; and Kristin Clune of Traverse City, MI. Cremation has taken place, with private services in the spring before interment in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery.
