Age 101, formerly of 823 Johnson Street Elmira, NY passed away on April 14, 2005 at St. Joseph?s Hospital Skilled Nursing, Elmira. Mary was born March 21, 1904 the daughter of the late Angelina (Spallone) and Anthony Campanelli, who immigrated to the United States from Italy in the early 1900?s. Grandma ?Til?, as she was commonly referred to by her grandchildren, was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Altilio in 1957; her son, Joseph Altilio of Orlando, FL in 1993; two brothers, Alfred Campanelli and Michael Campanelli both of Elmira. She is survived by daughters, Angelina Pariso, Pauline Rossi and Antoinette (John) Pirozzolo of Elmira, NY; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Altilio of Orlando, Fl; sons, Francis Altilio (fiancée Tammy Gray) of Pine City, NY; Gerald A. (Janiene) Altilio of Horseheads, NY; sisters, Rose Misuraca of Elmira Heights, NY; Grace Bowes of Orlando, FL. Mary is also Survived by 25 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. During the 1950?s and 1960?s, she was employed by Elmira Floral Products in Elmira Heights as a floral and rose trimmer. Mary?s treasures in life were her family, friends and her church. She loved cooking and spent many years creating traditional Italian dishes including many homemade macaroni dishes. The grandchildren remember their grandmother as being a generous and loving person, always sharing her food and treasures with them. Mary was a communicant of St. Anthony?s Church since it?s founding in the early 20th century and an active participant of the Sacred Heart Ladies Society. She was also a member of the Marche Club that celebrates the Italian-American heritage in the Elmira community. Mary?s family would like to express thanks and appreciation to the staff at St. Joseph?s Hospital Skilled Nursing for their kindness and endless caring for their mother. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, April 25, 2005 for 4 to 8 PM. A time of remembrance will begin at Olthof?s at 8:45 AM on Tuesday, April 26 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Anthony? s Church West Washington Avenue, Elmira with the Reverend Walter L. Wainwright as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY. The family will provide their own flowers.
