MARY ELIZABETH GRIFF WHEELER1923-2008Age 84 of Elmira, NY entered into eternal rest on Saturday October 4, 2008 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 8, 1923, the daughter of the late George & Marian(Arnold) Griff. Mary married the love of her life, Roger N. Wheeler on July 17, 1942; they spent more than 46 years of love and life together, until Rogers passing on February 9, 1989. Mary was a kind and gentle person who would help anyone in need, if you were feeling down Mary would always try to raise your spirits. She worked for many years at Oppenheims Grocery and Convenient Food Mart; for the last nineteen years Mary has volunteered her time at St. Josephs Hospital Gift Shop. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church and a member of their Alter & Rosary Society for many years.She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, William (Rebecca) Wheeler, of Elmira, NY, Thomas (Carla) Wheeler of Arvada, CO, Kathy (Jim) Dennison and Roxanne (Mike) Sullivan of Elmira, NY. Grandchildren, Christina Wheeler of Horseheads, NY, Kevin (Diana) Wheeler of Wasilla, AK, Tom (Kerrie) Wheeler of Arvada, CO, Aaron (Veronica) Wheeler of Lewisville, CO Jamie (Shannon) Dennison of State College, PA, Joe (Amy) Dennison of Harrisburg, PA, Jenna (Andrew) Campbell of NYC, Kyle (Britney) Sullivan, Megan (Joe Thomas) Sullivan, and Taryn Sullivan all of Elmira, NY, Erin (Tom) McElligott of Boston, MA, and Kelly (Jeff Cook) Sullivan of Elmira, NY. Great grandchildren, Gabriel & a Seamus Wheeler of Alaska, Kyle, Dylan, Aspen & Solan Wheeler of Colorado, Willow & Ava (due December 2008) Dennison of State College, PA, Abby & Rhyan Dennison of Harrisburg, PA, Aiden & Breckin Sullivan of Elmira, NY, Tommy & Sophia McElligott of Boston, MA, Kaylyn Cook of Elmira, NY. Sisters-in-law, Lois Griff and Beverly (Arland) Phillips, brothers in-law, Petey Wheeler and Rexford (Jane) Wheeler, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and spouse Mary was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Joe (Mary), John (Mildred) and George Griff, Margaret (Leo) Luke, Gertrude (Al) Honan, June Wheeler, nephews, Norm Phillips, Bob Biewin, and Adam Roy. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport NY on Tuesday October 7, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with words of tribute being offered by Rev. Douglas Hodge, Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, Franklin St. Elmira, NY. Father Richard Farrell Celebrant.Immediately after the Mass Mary will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Roger in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira.
