Michael J. Giardina

Giardina, Michael J. 77 a longtime member of the Pine City community, passed away Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Michael was born in Corning, NY the 19th of July1935. He was the son of the late Matteo and Bartola (Brucato) Giardina. In service to his country Michael was proud to be a United States Marine. He was predeceased by his brothers: Charles, Joseph, Sair. He attended Corning Schools and was a former Chemung County Deputy Sheriff. Later he retired from the Elmira Psychiatric Center. Michael is survived by his loving wife Frances DiGiacomo Giardina of Pine City; Sisters: Rose Cavallaro of Corning, and Mary Schoonover of Painted Post. Along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. He was inducted into the Chemung County Hall of Fame in 2007 as a contributor. Mike was well known for his dedication to the training of many young athletes in the area. Their many accomplishments were his personal trophies in life. He loved all sports, and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his friends at the gym. It was Michael’s request that there be no formal calling hours held. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012, 10:00AM at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue, Corning, NY Memorial donations in Michael J.
