Michael Micknich

October 15, 1923 — December 28, 2008

Age 85, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness. Mike was born October 15, 1923 in Taylor, PA to Nicholas and Katherine (Dyck) Micknich, who preceded him in death. He moved to LeRaysville, PA in 1932 and graduated from LeRaysville High School in 1941. He was a Veteran of the US Army,proudly serving his country and was also a graduate of Corning Community College. Michael is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Mavis Micknich, with whom he celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage; beloved children, Dorolyn Cooper of Rohnert Park, CA; Steve (Linda) Micknich of Horseheads, NY; Sandra Schimizzi, with fiancée Dick Clark of Elmira, NY; adored grandchildren, Gary (Cindy) Cooper, Desiree Cooper and Denise (Larry) Moheit all of California; Stephen (Jami) Micknich of Horseheads, NY; Michelle (Derrick) Gryska of Horseheads, NY; Anthony and Kyle Schimizzi of Elmira, NY; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Pete and Joe Micknich of LeRaysville, PA; John Micknich of Frazer, PA; sisters, Anna Havter of Vestal, NY; Olga Micknich of Binghamton, NY; and Mary Micknich of LeRaysville, PA; along with many nieces and nephews. Mike retired from the Bendix Corp. and was also employed by the A & P Plant as a supervisor of accounting and at the Remington Rand. Mike enjoyed his Polka outings and his Polka Music. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Funeral services honoring his life will be held there on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Don Guiles will celebrate Mike's services. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY, where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Micknich Military Honors.
