Age 75, of Laurel Street Elmira, NY passed away on Monday, April 5, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. He was born December 29, 1928 in Philipsburg, PA, the son of the late Millard S. and Gwendolyn (Smutzinger) Hancock Sr. Millard was a 1950 graduate of Penn State College of Health and Human Development and was a life member of the Alumni Association. He married Shirley Lane February 24, 1951. Millard was a Veteran of the US Army, serving from 1951-1953, during the Korean War. Millard was a 51-year member of the American Legion Post # 437 of Philipsburg, PA. After the service in 1953, Millard came to Elmira and worked at the Eclipse. He then owned and operated Merchants Delivery for 15 years. In 1990 he retired from the New York State Department of Corrections in Elmira after 22 years of dedicated service as a correctional analyst. Millard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley and their companion ?Brandy II?; brothers, James (Helen) Hancock of Chevy Chase, MD;Ronald (Emilie) Hancock of Bellefonte, PA; uncles, Harold ?Jack? Smutzinger and Robert (Eleanor) Smutzinger all of Elmira, NY. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Thursday, April 8, 2004 from 5 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours. (8:00 PM) The Reverend Richard Elliott, chaplain at the Elmira Correctional Facility, will celebrate his services.
