HORSEHEADS - Nancy Howe Twist, 82, of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully at home with her cat, Sweet Pea, by her side. Nancy was born in Elmira on February 25, 1939, the daughter of the late Giles and Margaret (Murphy) Howe. Graduating from Elmira's Southside High School in 1957, Nancy married in 1959. She served as Elmira's deputy clerk and city clerk from 1986-2001. Nancy was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Elmira, often volunteering to help at the soup kitchen and other charities. Nancy enjoyed camping at Lake Bonin, being a member of the Red Hat Society, square dancing, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing Aggravation and cards (Pinochle, Euchre, Hearts, Phase-10, etc.). Nancy is predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, the late Daniel R. Twist, her sister, Alice Luce Kiersznowski, and her brother, Fred Howe. She is survived by her younger sister, Sharon (Roy) Wilcox; daughters, Christine (John) Topolewski of Lebanon, NH and Vicki (Robert) Thompson of Morris, PA; her five grandchildren, William Clinton, Amanda Painter, Daniel (Brooke) Clinton, Kelly (Drew) Shepherd, and Jason (Erin) Topolewski; her six great-grandchildren, Lauren & Frankie Williams, Shelby & Lexi Clinton, Jensen Topolewski, and Declan Shepherd; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1050 Pennsylvania Ave, on Monday, February 21, 2022, from 10:00 – 12:00 PM. Graveside services will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY at the family's convenience.
