GLANTON, Nora Connolly Age 78, of Elmira, NY, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 after a long illness. Nora was born on August 27, 1935, in County Cork, Ireland. She was the youngest of six children, and she loved telling stories about her childhood,when she tended chickens, ran miles on country roads, and learned to sew and care for babies. In the 1960s, she emigrated to America, married her childhood friend Michael J. Glanton, and settled in Elmira. She was devoted to her two children, Eileen and Kate, and spent many hours volunteering in their schools, sewing clothes and costumes for them, and hosting their friends. She loved gardening, cooking, shopping, and going out to listen to Irish music. Nora was preceded in death by her husband, Michael. She is survived by daughters Eileen Loftus (Peter), and Kathleen Carpenter (Brian), and grandchildren James, Nora and Luke Loftus, and Patrick and Connor Carpenter. She is also survived by dozens of nephews and nieces, both in America and in Ireland, and by sisters Kitty Glanton and Eileen Minehane, as well as several beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law.The Family will receive friends at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport on Wednesday September 25, 2013 from 4:00 PM t0 7:00 PM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 am in St Peter and Paul's Church, Elmira. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Those wishing may make memorials in Nora's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital,262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Nora benefited greatly from the loving care provided by Bethany Manor and CareFirst. Her daughters are eternally grateful to the nurses who tended to her in her last few months.
