Oliver Lafe Button, age 85, born September 22,1930, passed away Thursday, May 26th, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Lafayette and Phoebe Hughes Button of Tioga, PA. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, Virginia Wheeler Button. He and his wife owned and operated Button Hill Farms before turning it over to the next generation exactly 50 years later. Oliver always had a story, piece of history, or words of wisdom to share with anyone willing to listen. In his younger years he was an excellent dancer and avid roller-skater. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, past member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the National Grange, and a past 4-H leader. In addition to being a dairy farmer, Oliver also sold Ridgedply Rafters, building materials, and dairy equipment. His legacy will be carried on by his five children and their spouses: Joyce Button, Pine City; Duane and Dani Button, Gillett; Byron and Betsy Button, Tioga; Penny and Tom Ostrander, Millerton; and Craig and Bobbi Button, Millerton; grandchildren: Marisa (Jim) Curry, Tallahassee; Drew (Brett) Carmen, Troy; Joseph (Stefanie) Button, Tioga; Julie (Luke) Hess, Millerton; Byron (Crystal) Button, Tioga; Trista (companion, Tom) Ranck, Elmira; Kyle (fiancé, Stacey) Ranck, Millerton; Macenzie (Shelby) Button, Millerton; Macory Button, Millerton; Rico Neumann, Millerton; great-grandchildren: Tate, Pyper, and Lila Button; Lily, Charlie, Henry, and Sammy Hess; Christina, Sierra, Cayden, and Jonas Button; Delany Carmen; Quinn Curry; Josh Weed; sisters-in-law: Carol Button, Tioga and Arleen Button, Mansfield; brother-in-law: Richard (Lois) Wheeler, Gillett; sister-in-law: Myrtle Wheeler, Pine City; and brother-in-law: Wayne White, Murrells Inlet, SC. Oliver is predeceased by sisters: Norma Webster, Eleanor Wodarski, and Sylvia Crans; brothers: Elwin and Charles Button; granddaughter: Amber Jean Button; and great granddaughter, Violet Eve Button; brother-in-law: Earl Wheeler; and sister-in-law: Beverly White. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Tuesday, May 31 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. The funeral service will take place the following morning on Wednesday, June 1st at 10:00AM. Niece Kim Snyder will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Alder Run Cemetery, Millerton, PA.
