Orval R. Whitesell

Was born September 7, 1927 in Nanticoke, PA the son of the late Elmer and Letha (Wright) Whitesell, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marcella German; brothers, Norman, Doyle and Ronald Whitesell; step-brother, Thomas Burns. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary; daughter, Sherry (Dan) Mandell; step-daughter, Tracy Smith; sisters, Audrey Domasiewicz of Montrose, PA and Arlene Atwell of Springville, PA; grandchildren, April Mandell, Matthew Butters and Racheal Merrick; great grandchildren, Nikitia, Kyria, Emily, Zaria, Illion and Audin; along with several nieces and nephews. Orval was a Veteran of the US Air Force proudly serving his country from 1952-1956 during the Korean War. He retired from Hardinge Brothers, Inc.after several dedicated years of service. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. Funeral services honoring his life will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM. Lay Pastor John P. Knapp will officiate. Immediately following the services the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Whitesell Military Honors.
