Age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Corning Hospital. Otha was raised on a farm in Southeast Ohio. She, her mother Marie (nee Dowler), father, Frederick ONeal, lived in Columbus, Ohio. There, she met and married Alwin Whit Weigel, OSU student, and college bandleader. She lived with him in Pennsylvania during WW II, and then later moved to Corning, NY. She raised three boys despite difficulty resulting from a leg injury in her childhood. She over came most of that adversity by keeping busy with her sons activities, preparing wonderful meals, making costumes for the school plays and Halloween, furniture restoration as a hobby and teaching leatherworking to the Womens Club. In the early 1960s, she moved with her family to Big Flats, where she volunteered for the Welcome Wagon, and worked as a bookkeeper for Kens Hair Stylists and others. For the last 25 years, she resided in the Village Square Apartments (Painted Post), where she made many friends, attended the Presbyterian Church in Painted Post, and was an avid participant of the Colonial Days. She is survived by sons Rawn Alwin and Neal Owen (both of Elmira), Noel Everett (Horseheads), grandchildren; Rawn Alwin Jr. (North Carolina), Laura Marie (Charlottesville, VA), Megan and Jon (Elmira). She was doting with her grandchildren and sons. Mrs. Otha Weigel will be remembered for many wonderful attributes, including a warm and caring heart, love of peace among others with equal handedness towards all, sharing good times with friends and family, her tireless record keeping, her laughter, her frugalness (she was Irish, after all), her lifelong cuteness, love of good food, a demure of selfless disposition, love of romantic comedies and Alfred Hitchcock movies (go figure), aromas from flowers and perfume (as long as it wasnt too expensive), the beauty in things such as flowers and people, and inner toughness and can do attitude, and a lifelong drive to get it right whatever the task. Anyone who has known her will fondly remember her petite stature, her love of all things good, her cute smile, and her eagerness to help others. She will be fondly missed, and dearly. A Memorial Service honoring her life will be celebrated in the First Presbyterian Church 201 North Hamilton Street Painted Post, NY on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 3:00 PM. The Reverend Richard R. Hubbard will celebrate Othas services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904.
