Patricia A. Materne Was born January 23, 1929 in Elmira, the daughter of the late Howard M. and Josephine A. (Weiss) Wood, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital SNF at the age of 87. Her beloved husband, Jacob Materne and brother, Howard James Wood preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving children: daughter, Tammy (Joseph) Kelley Powell of Elmira, NY; son, Gary (Deb) Materne of Breesport, NY; daughter, Janet (John) Mase of Pine City, NY; sisters: Joanne Matlega of Elmira, NY; Diana "DJ" Gillis also of Elmira along with 11 adored grandchildren, 25 beloved great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her canine companion, her beloved "Peanut" . For 30 years, Patricia managed and was the face of the original Dixie Barbecue. The light of her eyes were her children and the apple of her eyes were all her grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed crocheting, especially dollies, hats and scarf's. She was an avid poetess. She was quit the photographer and was always behind the camera but rarely in the pictures herself. She enjoyed planting her flowers and tending to her garden, especially her squash and tomatoes. Her homemade bread and applesauce was a favorite to many, especially the apple of her eye, her granddaughter Christina Kelley Harris. She visited all but 2 of the 50 states and said her favorite place to live was in Alaska. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral services celebrating her life will follow the visitation at 6 PM. Deacon George Welch will officiate. Interment will take place privately in the Woodlawn National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved Jacob.
