March 19, 1912 — July 2, 2005

Age 93, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005 at the home of her son after a courageous battle with cancer.She was the daughter of the late Peter and Ahaphia (Mazur) Waschezyn of Elmira, NY.She was born on March 19, 1912 in the Ukraine.Pauline is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Shirlee Kwasney of Elmira, NY, Peter and Barbara Kwasney of Buford, GA; sisters, Ann Skalko of Elmira, NY, Mary Swank of Elmira, Susan Barber of Elmira; sister-in-law, Betty Waschezyn of Elmira Heights, NY; grandsons, Philip, Jr. and Christopher; granddaughters, Jill, Kim, Michelle and Pamela; along with two great granddaughters, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Aleck; son, Christopher ?Kip?; brothers, John and Michael; sister, Helen; brothers-in-law, Nicholas Skalko, and Lester Swank.She graduated from the Del Kadar School with a degree in Cosmetology.Her many talents included inventions, with some patents; and her crafts of all kinds were entered in the Chemung County Fair.She also grew the most beautiful flowers, which sometimes received?Best of Show?.Mr. & Mrs. Kwasney volunteered for years at St. Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church making Pierogies, Pigs in the Blanket, and many life long friends.She kept up with community activities attending all of the Town of Southport Meetings. She also loved garage sales.Pauline was devoted to her family and made them the center of her world.Everyone felt her kindness and generosity in a special way. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 from 4 to 7 PM.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Pauline on Thursday, July 7, 2005 in St. Patrick?s Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira at 9:00 AM.The Reverend Walter Wainwright will celebrate the Mass.Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Southern Tier Hospice, (envelopes at the funeral home). On behalf of the Kwasney family, special thanks to Southern Tier Hospice and their staff for their wonderful, loving care and devotion to Pauline.
