Age 96 of Elmira passed away peacefully on October 17, 2009 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.Pauline was born in Millerton, Pa on March 2, 1913, the daughter of Lynn C. and Anna Seely Dickinson. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 52 yearsGordon J. Lord in 1985, a sister Hilda Covey, and a brother Irving Dickinson. She is survived by her daughters Lois (Gene) Norris of Bemus Point, NY and Linda (Jonathan) Pettit of the Columbus, Ohio area, and five great grandchildren Zachary, Darren, Brandon Norris, Erica and Michelle Pettit, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1929, Cortland Normal in 1932 and got a B.S. from Cortland College in 1962. She started her teaching career in a one-room school at Pine City, NY, and then taught at several other schools before entering the Elmira City School District from which she retired in July 1971. She was a member of Hedding-Christ's-New Beginnings United Methodist Church since 1925, where she served on various committees, taught Sunday School, and was a volunteer treasurer for ten years. She was also a member of NY State Teachers Association, Athenaeum Club, and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, AARP-IRS program, and Office for the Aging. One of her interests was working on genealogy. Because of this interest, she belonged to many genealogical and historical socities. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family will receive friends at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue Elmira, NY on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.Funeral services will take place immediately following the receiving of friends at 3:00 PM, the Rev. Michael Weeden officatiating. Pauline will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gordon in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Her family extends their most sincere appreciation to the staff at Arnot Ogden 4D unit for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Meals on Wheels, SPCA, or New Beginnings United Methodist Church envelopes will be provided at the funeral Home. Leave a loving legacy.
