Age 77, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY.He was born May 4, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Ralph and Anna (Firth) Coleman.Rocky was predeceased by his wife, Pamela; his brothers, Calvin and Donald; and his son, Lindsey Coleman. After attending school in Sharon Hill, PA, Ralph joined the US Marine Corps and became a combat paratrooper.He served in the Pacific Theatre on the islands of Tinian, Tarawa and Saipan in World War II.After the war, he worked as a painting contractor and boxing trainer, mostly in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.Surviving are his four sons; Rocky & Larry (Pebbles) Coleman of San Francisco, CA, Rocco (Christy) Coleman of Arlington, VA, Nicholas (Nicky) Coleman of Big Flats, NY; three daughters; Roxann (Dominic) Singleton of Riverdale, MD, Dawn Coleman of Elmira, NY, Patricia (Patsy) Coleman of Horseheads, NY; one sister, Juanita (Lloyd) Mapp of Horseheads, NY; one granddaughter, Larissa Coleman of Arlington, VA; and two grandsons, Anthony Coleman of Elmira, NY and Dylan Uhler of Horseheads, NY; and many nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Friday, June 27, 2003 from 12 to 1 PM with funeral and committal services there at 1 PM.Pastor Roosevelt Simmons will officiate.Interment will be at the convenience of the family.The family invites everyone to a luncheon at the Frederick Douglass Memorial AME Zion Church, 402 Madison Avenue, Elmira after the services are over.A Candle of Remembrance? may be left for the family at www.olthof.com.
