Raymond F. Matteson

Age 82, of Lawrenceville, PA, formerly of Pennsylvania Ave, Pine City, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 3, 2004, in the Corning Hospital. He was born November 21, 1921 in Hector, NY, the son of the late Floyd and Elizabeth (Leno) Matteson. His niece, Phyllis Westlake, and nephew, Richard Shearer, predeceased Raymond. His survivors include his sister, Philena Shearer of Pine City, NY; nieces, Jackie (Chuck) Wright of Hopkinsville, KY; Linda Shearer Wheeler of Pine City, NY; Dulice Shearer also of Pine City, NY; nephews, Ronnie (Fran) Shearer of Horseheads, NY; Lester (Patti) Shearer of Elmira, NY; along with several other nieces and nephews. Ray was a veteran of the US Army, proudly serving his country from 1942-1945 during WW II.He retired from Elmira Packaging, Inc. after several years of dedicated service as their fork lift operator.He enjoyed shopping at the mall or spending time in the food court.He had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Monday, July 5, 2004 from 12 to 2 PM. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Larry Parker will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
