Age 73, born August 1, 1939 passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.Richard was the son of Donald and Patricia Hartman.In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Peter & Margaret Salbego along with aunt and uncles Evelyn, Harold and LeRoy Hartman.Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Salbego) Hartman and his children Brigette (Shawn) DeCenzo and their daughter Brooke Alexis; Jason (Madeline) Hartman and their children, Charles Thomas, Margaret Anne and Samuel Michael (Charlie, Maggie, Sammy) Hartman; brother Ronald (Viola) Hartman and sons Mark, Steven and Shon Hartman. Also surviving are Richard’s sisters-in-law and their families:Christine (Thomas) Conboy and sons Peter and Thomas, Cathy (Peter) Shipsides and their children Geoffrey (Elizabeth) James and George; Andrew (Katie) Shipsides and Colleen Shipsides; Carolyn (Michael) Dean their children, Heather, Casey and Kevin Dean and Heather’s children Evalynn and Roman. Step-mother, Lois Hartman and Alma Hartman and her children Scott, Karen, Lisa, Todd and Sheila and their families. Step-mother-in-law, “Lee” Salbego and Aunt, Catherine Fillmore.Richard was a lifelong resident of the Elmira area and a graduate of Southside High School.He received his BS Degree in Business Administration from Bucknell University. Richard was a Viet-Nam veteran and Captain in the U. S. Army.After returning to civilian life, Richard was the Wage and Salary Administrator of Bendix Corporation, Director of Personnel of Arnot Ogden Hospital, and Director of Personnel and Purchasing for the City of Elmira. Richard and his brother Ron went into business in the Elmira area establishing the partnership Hartman & Lynch Auto Sales and the Elmira Arms Company.Richard was an avid sportsman and he lived his life to the fullest.He was truly and a man’s man, wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral services celebrating Richard's life will be held there Thursday, March 21st, 2013 at 11:00AM.
