Richard R. Lown, age 76 of Elmira, NY was born August 24, 1940 in Elmira, son of the late William Lown and Lillian Lown Cory. He passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, after losing an eight year battle with Lymphoma. After graduating from Southside High School - Class of 1958, Richard entered the US Navy serving as a radio man on the USS Rush. Richard spent many years working for the US Post Office, retiring in 2009. Richard had a love for the sport of fishing and hunting. Best of all were the stories - and could he and his buddies tell stories...there were a lot of morning coffee meetings at Lights bake shop. Surviving Richard are his loving wife of 47 years, Judy (Merrill) Lown; sons, Randall Lown of Elmira, NY, and Daniel Lown with wife Marie; granddaughters, Annie, Sadie and Emmie Lown all of Binghamton, NY, Richard's granddaughters held a special place in his heart. Also surviving Richard is a sister-in-law, Nancy (Merrill) Beeman of Vista, CA; along with nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Julie Lown. The family would like to thank Dr. Barr, at the Wilmont Cancer Center in Rochester, NY and Dr. Shultz of Arnot Health in Horseheads, NY for all the family support and wonderful care they have given Richard over the past eight years. They also want to thank Marie and Daniel Lown for the loving care they gave Richard in his final weeks in their home, so he could be with family on his journey home. There will be no prior calling hours and burial will take place at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Richard's life will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Bernie Murray's, 500 South Main Street, Elmira from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. Anyone wishing to share memories may do so.
