Was born December 19, 1932 in Pine City, NY the son of the late Richard W. and Clara (Loomis) Snyder Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving and caring family at the age of 73. His brothers, John Jackie and Fred Snyder predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet H. (Freeman) Snyder; beloved children, Suzanne (Robert) Donaldson, Keith (Ann) Snyder, Karen (Frank) Walker, Michael Snyder, Brian Snyder, Wendy (Rob) Southard, Jason Snyder (Rene VanDeWark), Tammy Snyder; much-loved grandchildren, Jack (Linda) Snyder, Bobby (Amy) Snyder, James (Shannon) Donaldson, John Paul Donaldson, Justin Donaldson, Chad Donaldson, Jeremy (Susan) Walker Sr., Rebecca Walker (Joseph Avery), Bradley Snyder, Joshua Snyder, Rachel Snyder, Bryana Snyder, Andria Walker and Bryce VanDeWark; 18 adored great grandchildren; sister, Betty (Ansel) Miller; nephew, Richard Snyder III; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends. Richard graduated from Southside High Schools class of 1951. He then became an officer of the United States Navy proudly serving his country from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. He retired from Westinghouse as an electrician after 40 years of dedicated service. He coached his children, grandchildren and many other children in the Southport Recreation baseball and softball leagues for many years. He also enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader for several years and was the # 1 seller in popcorn sales and became a member of the Old Goat Patrol. Richard had a passion for woodworking during his retirement and also enjoyed vacationing on the east coast. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services honoring his life will be held there Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM. The Reverend William Vallet will celebrate Richards service. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Snyder full Military Honors.
