December 28, 1916 — July 4, 2005

Age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2005 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, where she received the utmost care. She was born December 28, 1916 in Elmira, the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Hartnett. Her loving husband, Carl Bailey, predeceased Rita on June 8, 1992.She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Kathleen V.Bailey of Elmira, NY; granddaughters, Holly (Todd) Glunt of Roaring Springs, PA; Elizabeth (Robert) Lewis of Dysart, PA; Monica (Adam) Drake of Statesville, NC; great grandchildren, Brianna and Abagail Glunt; Shaylee and Dakoda Drake; Zane Lewis; nieces, Patricia Hartnett Tobin of Oak Brook, IL; Mary Ann Palmer of Elmira, NY; Carol Dien of Omaha, NE; nephew, Tom (Patricia) Couse of Elmira, NY; and very close family friend, Rev. Martin Erapu of Africa. Rita was a member of the BPOE Lodge # 62 Does Elmira Elks Club, Eagles Club Lodge # 941, the Clarence Oliver American Legion Post # 154 Elmira Heights, NY, and a communicant of St. Peter & Paul?s Church.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Friday, July 8, 2005 from 5 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 10:30 AM in St. Peter & Paul?s Church, 161 High Street, Elmira, NY. The Reverend Rick Farrell will celebrate Rita?s Mass. Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul?s Cemetery with Father Farrell conducting the committal prayers.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities Community Kitchen, 161 High Street, Elmira, NY14901.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com .
