Age 83 passed into peace Wednesday, May 14th, 2003 at St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine O?Connor Tigue, born in Elmira, October 30th, 1919.Rita was a lifelong resident of Southport, NY. Surviving is her loving husband of 63 years, Walter (Bill) Cook of Pine City; daughter; Joni Cooklin of Pine City, son and daughter-in-law; Bill and Sue Cook of Pine City; grandchildren; Christine and Mike Terpstra of Largo, FL; Suzie Cooklin of Elmira; Eric and Wendy Woodyard of Horseheads; Brian Cook of Elmira; great-grandchildren; Nikki and Erik Doty of IN; Brandon Cooklin of Elmira; Justin Greene, Jessica Greene both of FL; Brittany Toffan of Horseheads; great-great- granddaughter; Lillie Doty of IN, brother; Thomas Tigue of Milton, PA, sister; Dorothy and Donald Rothacher of Marysville, CA; brothers; Bernard and Barbara Tigue of IL; Donald and Mary Tigue of Big Flats, NY,several nieces and nephews.Rita loved family. After her marriage to her husband Walter, she helped support her household by taking in foster children. Once she and Walter had started their own family, she went to work for the Remington Rand.In 1963 she attended beauty school. As Rita was finishing her stint in school, Walter was hard at work creating a beauty salon in a small part of the family home for her to conduct business. Together they supported each other, and their entire household. Rita was a communicant of St. Mary?s Church. She enjoyed every moment spent with her grandchildren. Bingo was her favorite pastime. She also was a big supporter of the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department with her involvement in the Ladies Auxiliary.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Saturday, May 17th, 2003 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.Funeral and committal services will be at the conclusion of calling hours at 8:00 PM.Deacon Robert Stowell will officiate. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Peter and Paul?s Cemetery, Elmira, NY.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pine City Volunteer Fire Dept.
