Age 84 of Elmira, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, July 2, 2004.He was born December 10, 1919 in Elmira, the son of the late Henry and Alice Purdy.He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie, in 1995 and brother, Harold. He is survived by his son, Robert (Charleen) Purdy, of Chemung; daughter, Anita (Michael) Cardinal, of Athens, PA; grandchildren, Cindy and Allen Purdy of Chemung; Daniel French of East Smithfield, PA; sisters, Marilyn Webster of Apalachin; Dawn (Richard) Pesoncko of Vestal; sisters-in-law, Marie McInroy of Elmira; Gloria Purdy of FL; Bertha Taylor of Elmira; and Arlene Taylor of FL; along with several nieces, nephews, and special friend and companion, Lorena Conklin of Pine City. Bob was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.Since retiring from the Elmira Correctional Facility, he was always on the go.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drinking Manhattans, and taking lessons to pilot gliders at Harris Hill.Bob will be remembered by all who knew him for his outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Thursday, July 8, 2004 from 5 to 7 PM.Funeral services will immediately follow at 7 PM with the Rev.
