Robert J. “Bob” Combs, a lifelong member of the Elmira community, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Bob was a man who loved his family and found joy in the simple things in life. An artist at heart, he enjoyed painting, and his artwork is proudly displayed in the homes of those he loved. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, and his compassion extended to every furry friend he met.
He was preceded in death by: his parents - Glenn and Ruth Combs; his brothers - Joel and David Combs; his sister-in-law Cheryl Combs (Joel’s wife); and his niece Colleen (Combs) Penrod.
Bob is survived by: his brother Tom (Julie) Combs; his nephews - Jeff (Karen) Combs and Patrick (BeLinda) Combs; and his niece Jill (Brian) Manchester. He was a proud great-uncle to Codi (Adam) Thomas, Jordan (Nicole) Combs, Heather (David) Austin, Collin Burns, Kennedy Burns, and Riley Ringer—all of whom shared many special memories with him. He will also be fondly remembered by other beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed to know him.
Bob retired from Eastern Metals, where he worked as a painter for many years.
Friends and family are invited to the family farm for a celebration of life on Saturday, September 27, beginning at 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM when his memorial service will begin, to be officiated by Reverend Bement.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Bob's memory to the Southern Tier Animal Shelter, 320 Crane Rd, Elmira, NY 14901.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Bob is now reunited with his parents, brothers, sister-in-law, and niece who went before him.
