Age 84, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Bradford County Manor. He was born June 20, 1921 in Gillett PA, son of the late Charles and Maude Dewey French. Robert attended Bucknell University and graduated from Bliss Electrical School. He was a World War II veteran of the US Navy and served in the European Theatre and the South Pacific after Pearl Harbor.For 17 ½ years he worked for IBM in Owego, and as a journeyman electrician in the Elmira and Rochester areas. His church, the Mosherville Bible Church, where he was a member for 50 years, held a major part of his time. He served there as Deacon and many behind the scenes jobs, including asking boys to ring the bell with him. He loved visiting with people, especially about Fords and Cub Cadet tractors. This little community will miss him. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Esther Curren French; beloved sons, Richard E. French of Garland, TX; R. Kevin French of Gillett & Elmira; adored grandchildren, Derek French, attending CO school in Albany, NY; Sergeant Devon French of Fort Lewis, WA, soon to be stationed in Germany; great grandson, Reese Jordan French of Seattle, WA.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Friday, November 25, 2005 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM and 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral and committal services will follow the visitation. Reverend Robert Bevins and Navy Chaplin Tom Hager will celebrate the services for Mr. French. Interment will take place privately and at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery.Memorial donations may be directed to the Gideon?s International.
